Lighting the Christ Candle

John 1:1-9
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all humankind.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John.
7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.
8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
Lighting the Christ Candle
The light of Christ shines in us and on us
The light of Christ shows us the way.
The light of Christ transforms us.
The light has gathered.
We celebrate in Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace
The coming of Immanuel, God with us,
A tiny baby who grew to be the man Jesus,
whose light still shines in the darkness
and who we remember
as we light the Christ candle this Christmas.
Advent 4 - Love

Lighting the 4th Advent Candle - Love
As this season of Christmas unfolds around us,
the welcome beauty of love is found,
woven into the simplicity of every moment.
May love flow from our hearts with abundance,
filling every moment with the season’s gifts,
of hope and peace and joy.
(Light first three candles)
May love be shared truly and deeply
so that all who encounter it
will be charged with its message
and become, themselves, the agents of love.
Teach us the truth of this most precious gift:
we are nothing without each other.
Let us live in the blessing of love.
(Light 4th candle)
May Love light the world this Christmas.
Hope is a Star
1.Hope is a star that shines in the night,
leading us on till the morning is bright.
Refrain:
When God is a child there's joy in our song.
The last shall be first
and the weak shall be strong,
and none shall be afraid.
2. Peace is a ribbon that circles the earth,
giving a promise of safety and worth.
3. Joy is a song that welcomes the dawn,
telling the world that the Saviour is born.
4. Love is a flame that burns in our heart.
Jesus has come and will never depart.
Advent 3 - Joy

Advent is a season of waiting
We do not wait alone.
God is with us.
We join our hearts with those who have seen the signs,
heard the whispers, felt the tugs in their hearts.
Today is the third Sunday in Advent.
We relight the candles of Hope and Peace.
Today we light the third candle
a candle to represent joy.
We live in a world longing for joy;
joy that transcends silence,
joy that erupts in laughter and singing,
joy that opens our spirits up to all that is and embraces it,
joy that dreams beyond all constraints.
Knowing the need for joy in our own lives and in the world,
we light this candle as a symbol of joy
promised in the coming of Jesus.
Hope is a Star Verses 1-3
Hope is a star that shines in the night,
leading us on till the morning is bright.
Refrain
When God is a child there’s joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong,
and none shall be afraid.
Peace is a ribbon that circles the earth,
giving a promise of safety and worth.
Joy is song that welcomes the dawn,
telling the world that a saviour is born.
Advent 2 - Peace

Lighting of the Advent Wreath Candle - Peace
Today is the second Sunday in Advent.
Last week, we lit the first candle- a candle to represent hope.
Today we light the second candle, a candle to represent peace.
We live in a world longing for peace;
a peace that overcomes the need for war,
a peace that fills us and our world and allows neighbours to become friends, a peace that allows us to become our truest selves: children of God.
Knowing the need for peace in our own lives and in the world,
we light this candle as a symbol of the peace
promised in the coming of Jesus.
Hope is a Star v. 1-2
1. Hope is a star that shines in the night,
leading us on till the morning is bright.

Advent 1 – Hope
We come as a Advent people,
praising the God of promise
with glad and thankful hearts.
We are following the holy path
following a shining star
which leads straight to Bethlehem

Micah 7:7
Lighting of the 1st Advent Candle
We light this first candle for Advent
and in the flame we see hope
in the person of Jesus the Christ,
coming into the dark and hopeless places of this world.

Bless us, your people, as we wait in hopeful anticipation of your promise of the wonderful things to come.
